Plans for large-scale wind farm
Plans to build a large wind farm in Northumberland have been unveiled.

Company Your Energy wants to put up 14 wind turbines, each above 110 metres high, at Allerdean, south of Berwick.

But some people living in the area, who learned of the plans this week, are concerned about the visual impact such a scheme would have.

Representatives from the company are in the area on Thursday to show residents their plans and to answer questions about the scheme.

Resident Mike Maud said he found out about the plans after receiving a leaflet in the post.

He said: "My immediate reaction was, from a personal perspective I think wind power is important, I think it is something I would personally like to support.

'Cause surprise'

"But once I looked into it in more detail the sheer scale of this development and the place where it is proposed to be put has led me to certainly want to get more information on it."

Mr Maud said his real concern was that there was very little information other than what was in the leaflet and he found that surprising.

Your Energy director Charles Sandham said they had done work upfront before writing to local people so they can provide answers at the exhibition.

He said: "I do apologise that these things do drop through people's letterboxes and cause a little bit of surprise."

He said he hoped people would come to the exhibition and they were close to putting in a planning application.

He said: "This is a long way from a done deal. This is part of the consultation process.

"We are a company that I think are very good at consultation. On previous schemes people have come to us and we have removed turbines and moved turbines."
