Karl Peart left two notes by his bedside
A teenage boy who apparently killed himself after he was bullied was the victim of an alleged rape, police said on Monday.
Karl Peart died when he allegedly took an overdose of painkillers at his home in Lynemouth in Northumberland, on Sunday 1 June.
His parents say he had been taunted through primary school and routinely attacked throughout his secondary school career.
A 23-year-old man was arrested and questioned by police with their inquiries into the alleged sex attack on Karl Peart, before later being released on police bail.
The alleged rape is understood to have taken place seven years ago when Karl was nine-years-old.
An allegation was believed to have been made to police earlier in 2003.
The 16-year-old was found dead in bed at his home in Lynemouth,
Northumberland. He had left notes and had apparently taken an overdose.
One of the notes detailed the arrangements for his funeral - including a request to play the song I'm With You by chart star Avril Lavigne.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said a 23-year-old man from the Sunderland area had been arrested and was helping police with their inquiries in relation to this allegation.
He was later released on police bail pending further enquiries, and has to report to police on 17 July, 2003.
Karl attended Hirst High School, Ashington, Northumberland, which was hit by another tragedy last week.
Pupil Gemma Dimmick, 15, was found dead at her home after she also apparently took tablets.
She was buried next to her mother at St John's Church, Ashington, on Friday.
Northumberland County Council has started an inquiry into the deaths.
A spokesman for Northumberland County Council said: "We will be cooperating fully with the police inquiry. It would be inappropriate to say anything at this point in time."
