'Cracked' Teesside bridge remains closed

A Teesside bridge which closed after cracks appeared following heavy rain could remain off limits to traffic for a few days, a council has said.

Structural engineers were called to Leven Bank Bridge, on the A1044 near Yarm, by police on Friday evening.

It was closed as a safety precaution, with diversion put in place.

Specialists are expected to return to the scene later. A spokesman for Stockton Council said it was expected to be out of bounds for some time.

The council said access to local properties would be maintained.
