Horror name Hartlepool man jailed for child abuse

Damien Karnstein
Karnstein was also placed on the sex offenders register

A Hartlepool man who changed his name to a character from a series of Hammer Horror films has been jailed for seven years for child sex abuse.

Damien Karnstein, 55, formerly known as Stephen Ogden, admitted four offences against a boy between 1978 and 1981 and 16 charges of making indecent images.

Teesside Crown Court heard he changed his name after watching the Count Karnstein vampire trilogy in the 1970s.

Karnstein, of Benmore Road, was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Judge David Bryant said that Karnstein had a continuing sexual interest in children and also gave him an indefinite ban on unsupervised contact with those under-18 years of age and from working with children.
