Jewellery taken in Bishop Auckland smash-and-grab raid

A jewellers in County Durham was targeted by smash-and-grab burglars.

They forced open the shutters and smashed the front display window of Ramsden's Pawnbrokers and Jewellers, in Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland.

Rings, watches and other items were stolen. The value of the haul is not yet known.

The alarm was raised by a passer-by but when police arrived after the burglary early on Friday morning there was no trace of the offenders.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
