Man jailed for phone child porn

Daniel Carroll
Carroll admitted possession of 244 images

A paedophile who downloaded child porn on his mobile phone, weeks after being released from a Teesside prison, has been jailed indefinitely.

Daniel Carroll, 25, of The Crescent, Middlesbrough, downloaded 244 indecent images, including some of the most serious variety.

He had been freed from a three-year jail term for indecent assaults on a boy, Teesside Crown Court heard.

He was sentenced after admitting making and possessing indecent images.

Prosecutor Sharon Elves told the court that Carroll was met by police when he left Holme House Prison, Stockton, on 15 January to escort him to a hostel.

'Significant risk'

She said the officers had warned him of his lifetime ban from accessing the internet when he unpacked a new mobile phone on the journey.

The court heard he also breached a Sexual Offender's Prevention Order by sending text messages to the 16-year-old daughter of another prisoner whose photograph he had spotted in the man's cell.

Judge Michael Taylor, sentencing Carroll, said: "I have no doubt in my assessment of you that you pose a very significant risk to young children.

"I consider that the public and particularly young children need protection from you.

"Until you can convince the authorities that it is safe to release you you will remain in custody. It may be many years, it may be that you will never be released."
