Two arrested after firework theft

Some of the fireworks, similar to these, are still missing

Two men have been arrested after large air bomb fireworks were stolen from a council display site in Teesside.

The fireworks were due to be part of the Stockton Riverside display which went ahead as planned on Thursday.

Some of the fireworks taken have been recovered but a number have yet to be located. Police warned that the fireworks were dangerous.

The men, aged 27 and 25, have been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

The fireworks, which were blue and brown, contain an explosive charge and detonate at between 100-200m (110-220 yards). Their short fuses are detonated electronically and remotely.

Det Insp Jon Green, of Stockton CID, said: "The potential risk of someone coming to harm when handling these fireworks cannot be over emphasised and I would appeal to anyone who may know of their location - or have any information in connection to them - to contact us immediately."
