Thefts warning at town cemetery

Visitors to a Teesside cemetery have been urged to be vigilant after a spate of opportunist thefts.

The move, by Middlesbrough Council, follows two reported bag snatches at Thorntree Cemetery.

Warning posters are being put up at the cemetery and CCTV is being examined in an effort to track down those responsible.

A council spokesman condemned the incidents as "deplorable acts" against upset and vulnerable people.
