Man is arrested after taxi crash

A man has been arrested after a 46-year-old pedestrian was struck by a taxi on Teesside.

Police said the Skoda taxi hit the man in Leighton Road, close to the junction with Birchington Avenue, Grangetown, in the early hours of Saturday.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital were he is being treated for serious leg injuries.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is being questioned by officers.

Any witnesses to the collision at 0045 BST are asked to contact police.
