Protection for historic mansion

Ormseby Hall
Ormesby Hall is home to the mounted section of Cleveland Police

Redcar and Cleveland Council is set to approve plans to extend a conservation area around a 18th Century mansion to offer it better protection.

The existing area was created around Ormesby Hall, near Middlesbrough, in 1971, but it has since come under pressure due to housing developments.

Following a consultation, the council has approved an appraisal setting down the special character of the area.

The boundary will also be extended to include the parkland south of the A174.

Ormesby Hall is the only National Trust property in the Redcar and Cleveland area.

It has developed into a popular museum and visitor attraction, and is also home to Cleveland Police's mounted section.
