Rescuers call off search for girl

A large-scale search for a girl spotted walking into the sea off the Teesside coast has been called off.

Rescuers said the search was cancelled because a member of the public reported seeing the girl walk away from the sea.

Three lifeboat crews and an RAF helicopter scoured the Redcar coastline for the girl, who is aged about 17, for several hours on Wednesday.

Rescuers were alerted when a member of the public dialled 999 after seeing the teenager on the beach at Majuba Road.
