Five-foot snake found in a bath

A woman has found a 5ft-long snake in the bath at her home in Teesside.

Firefighters were called to the home in Thorntree, Middlesbrough after Gee Ruzvidzo, 27, found the corn snake in the early hours of Thursday morning.

She said: "I opened my bathroom door and saw the snake by my bath. I did scream because I was scared to death."

Grangetown firefighters caught the yellow and black snake in a pillowcase before handing it to the RSPCA. It is now recovering at a local RSPCA centre.

Barry Edwards, a firefighter involved in the rescue, said: "I couldn't believe it when they said it was an animal rescue and then it was actually a snake.

"I don't think any of the guys at the station had come across something like this before," he said.

It is believed the snake went missing from a neighbour's house seven months ago.
