Scheme to keep youths off streets

Police on Teesside have joined forces with the youth services in a scheme to steer young people away from crime.

Neighbourhood officers in Thornaby will work with youth groups to get youngsters off streets and into sports and leisure sessions across the town.

It is part of the government's Youth Crime Action Plan which aims to tackle youth crime through enforcement, non-negotiable support and prevention.

The Stockton borough was chosen to benefit from the government funding.
