Man remanded over attempted arson

A 46-year-old man has appeared before magistrates after a bottle of flammable liquid was thrown into Hartlepool Police Station.

Stephen Rowbotham, from the town, was charged with attempted arson with intent to endanger life, following the incident on Wednesday morning.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Crown Court on 22 January.

Police said only a small amount of the liquid was spilt in the station's front desk area.

Two members of the public waiting in the reception area were left shocked but unhurt.
