Empty cashbox found after robbery

Police investigating an armed robbery at a supermarket on Teesside have recovered an empty cash box which had contained £20,000.

The raid took place on Tuesday lunchtime when a security guard was filling a cash machine at the Somerfield store in Yarm.

He was threatened by a man carrying what is believed to be a handgun and who left the scene in a Nissan Primera.

This was later found abandoned nearby with the empty cash box inside.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cleveland Police.
