Plans to improve tourism in town

Businesses, organisations and local people have been asked for their views

A new programme to improve tourism in a market town on Teesside has begun.

In a bid to improve the tourist economy and attract investment in Guisborough, local groups will work with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.

The scheme will develop a vision for what the town can offer visitors and businesses in five to 10 years time.

The initiative is part of The Market Town Welcome Programme, funded by One North East, which helps local towns to raise their game.

Hazel Meynell, Chair of Guisborough Market Town Partnership said: "We want the town to focus on its strengths and develop a strong identity which will attract more visitors and encourage them to stay longer.

Great opportunity

"Tourism is such an important part of the economy and we want to support and encourage businesses to deliver a really top quality product."

Businesses, organisations and local people in the Guisborough and East Cleveland area have been invited to workshop sessions throughout November.

Ian Stewart from the council said: "This is a really great opportunity for the area.

"We hope a very wide range of people take part so that this work is well-informed and makes the best case possible for Guisborough, helping create a strong platform for future investment in the area."
