Woman injured in police van crash

A woman has been injured in a head-on crash between her car and a police van on Teesside.

The van was responding to an emergency before the collision with a Peugeot travelling in the opposite direction on Newport Bridge Approach, Middlesbrough.

A 25-year-old woman from the Thornaby area, who was driving the Peugeot, was taken to hospital where her condition is described as serious but stable.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been informed.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, early on Saturday morning.
