Town mayor banged up for charity

Hartlepool VIPs are behind bars to raise money for charity and launch a crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

Mayor Stuart Drummond and MP Iain Wright are testing out the new custody suite in Hartlepool police station, to launch "Not in my Neighbourhood" week.

This weekend they were taken through what happens when a person is arrested then locked up in a cell.

The suite has been rebuilt and means officers will no longer have to travel to Middlesbrough to use the cells.

Cleveland Police's week-long campaign will raise awareness of what is being done to make communities feel safer tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

Mr Drummond, who is spending time in the cell to raise money for cancer research, said: "Hopefully, most people will never get a chance to see the inside of a police cell."
