People air school revamp opinions

A series of drop-in sessions over multi-million pound plans for Teesside schools led to an "encouraging" number of comments, the council has said.

Redcar and Cleveland Council is planning a £90m revamp of 11 of its secondary and special schools.

A consultation process has been under way with parents, pupils and staff also invited to forward their views.

These will now be included in a report to be presented to councillors at the end of October.

Councillor Ian Jeffrey, cabinet member for children's services and education, said: "We have been encouraged by the views expressed that we have received from members of the public and now they will be included in our decision-making process.

"We are now all looking forward with great anticipation to get into the programme.

"It has been a long wait, almost two years, but we are convinced it will be worthwhile for every child in the borough."
