Stranded ducks are escorted home

A family of ducks were given a special escort home after becoming stranded in a town centre car park.

The tiny brood were spotted by eagle-eyed Middlesbrough parking attendant Ken O'Keefe, who marched the runaways back to their pond.

Mr O'Keefe, 56, escorted the mother duck and six ducklings the 250 yards from the civic centre car park to the pond in Millennium Square in the town.

Mr O'Keefe said the birds regularly used the car park as a nest site.

He said: "They often nest in the bushes in the car park, but usually they are earlier in the year.

"I wanted to protect them from predators, so I escorted them all the way to the pond."
