Bikini challenge to world record

Women in bikinis
Women over the age of 16 are invited to turn up in a bikini

Women are being invited to brave the weather and turn up at a Teesside beach to be photographed in a bikini in an attempt to break a world record.

Organisers need at least 1,011 women to take part in the event on Redcar's Majuba beach at 1100BST on Sunday.

A 5 entry fee will raise funds for the Great North Air Ambulance, and the council is offering free parking.

The current record stands at 1,010, and was set on Bondi Beach in Australia in September 2007.

Entries to that event were restricted to women between 18 and 34 years of age.

However, in Redcar, any women over the age of 16 can take part, and there is no upper age limit.
