Arrests after toddler taken ill

A 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman have been arrested after a toddler was taken seriously ill.

The 18-month-old girl from the Harwich Grove area of Seaton Lane, Hartlepool, is in intensive care in the James Cook University Hospital.

Police have refused to comment on reports that the child's illness was caused by swallowing cannabis, and tests are being carried out.

The two people are currently being questioned by Durham Police.
