Work starts on new £30m hospital

Building work has started on a new £30m hospital for Teesside.

The facility in Redcar will replace current services at the 28-bed Stead Primary Care Hospital in Kirkleatham and accommodate four GP practices.

A consortium of Ryhurst and Sir Robert McAlpine is building the hospital and associated health centre, with a completion date set for November 2009.

Redcar and Cleveland Primary Care Trust said the facility would be something the people of Redcar could be proud of.

Additional services at the site will include an outpatient department, day theatre, minor injuries unit and ultrasound department.
