A man tried to abduct a nine-week-old boy from a Teesside beach.

Nicole Kemp, 17, was pushing her son Mitchell in his buggy on Skinningrove beach when the man snatched him and ran off on Thursday lunchtime.

Her screams alerted a passer-by who managed to free the baby after tackling the man.

The offender is bald, 5ft 10in tall, of stocky build, aged late 30s to early 40s. He spoke with a Southern accent and may have had a tattoo on his arm.

He was wearing a white short sleeved shirt, dark tracksuit bottoms, and dark blue or black trainers.

The man approached the mother from behind

Ms Kemp said the man had grabbed her child after approaching from behind.

She said: "He started walking away with him quite fast and I shouted to give him back, but the man said, 'you don't know what it's like not to have kids."

The young mother said the ordeal has made her afraid to leave the house with her son alone.

Police are appealing for the man who tackled the offender to come forward.
