His 19-year-old mother, from the Redcar area, was questioned by officers on suspicion of neglect and possession of controlled drugs.

She was bailed until next month pending further inquiries.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: "On April 11, police were made aware of the case of a young child who had allegedly ingested controlled drugs.

"The child was admitted to a local hospital and was treated in the intensive care unit before being released.
