Brothers sentenced after attack
A 16-year-old boy has been detained indefinitely after a knife attack which almost beheaded a man.

A judge said that it was only thanks to modern medical science that 23-year-old Wayne Rogan's life had been saved.

Dylan Russell, from Hartlepool, was found guilty of wounding with intent and must serve at least three years.

His brother Michael Russell, 20, was found guilty of affray and possessing a weapon and was sent to a young offenders' institution for a year.

Teesside Crown Court heard how the brothers, both of Murray Street, Hartlepool, carried out the attack in Jobson Street, Hartlepool.

The hearing was also told that Mr Rogan had suffered a deep wound to his neck during the attack.

Judge Peter Fox QC said that Dylan Russell, who was 15 at the time, was a serious risk to the public.

The brothers had denied their involvement.
