Strong winds spark road closures
Motorists in County Durham have been faced with disruption on main routes because of high winds.

The Highways Agency shut the A1(M) between the Aycliffe and Bradbury interchanges - junctions 59 to 60 - for an hour on Wednesday evening.

The outside lane of the motorway is closed to traffic south of junction 61 near Bowburn.

The Newton Cap viaduct, near Bishop Auckland in County Durham, has been closed to high-sided vehicles.

Network Rail has also imposed a speed limit on the East Coast Mainline.

Anyone travelling on Wednesday is urged to check conditions before heading out.
