Redevelopment plan a step closer
Coatham housing development
The Coatham development will include homes and leisure facilities
A multi-million pound homes and leisure development planned for Teesside has moved a step closer thanks to a grant of almost £1.5m.

Redcar and Cleveland Council said the £55m Coatham Enclosure redevelopment will provide housing and much-needed leisure facilities.

Regeneration agency, One NorthEast has donated the money which will be spent on the project's new leisure centre.

Work on the redevelopment is due to begin in 2008.

Cheaper heating

The planned development will include 250 new homes, a medical centre, a beauty salon and a new gym and swimming pool.

Councillor Mark Hannon, cabinet member for economic development for the Council, said: "The confirmation of funding by One NorthEast shows real confidence in our plans to kick-start the long-term regeneration of Redcar.

"This clearly demonstrates One NorthEast's full support of this dynamic new development which includes proposals to use innovative technology to provide cheaper heat and power to the new leisure facilities and housing.

"It really will be a landmark development that will bring a sense of prosperity to the area."
