A "cunning and devious" paedophile who lured a primary school girl into woods and apparently took mobile phone photos as he assaulted her has been jailed.
Kevin Toner, 20, of Thomas Street in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, was caught on CCTV following the girl, aged nine, in Coulby Newham, Teesside
He was convicted of sexual assault last month, following the September attack.
Toner was jailed indefinitely with a minimum sentence of four years, at Teesside Crown Court.
He was also placed on the sex offenders' register for life.
Toner handed himself in to police after they released video footage of the child being followed from a bus at the Parkway Centre.
He had previous convictions for indecent assault on two boys aged nine and 10 in 2002, for which he was given a community penalty.
Outside court, the girl's father said: "It has been a shattering experience and it is a relief that the case is now over.
"We will probably never get 100% closure, but the successful prosecution of Kevin Toner will surely go a long way to that target."
He added that his daughter now suffers from nightmares, her behaviour has got worse and she is undergoing counselling.
The judge said Toner was "a cunning and devious predator"
Cleveland Police never recovered the mobile phone on which Toner apparently filmed images, but said they had proved he had the phone with him.
Det Insp Stan Drummond, who led the investigation said: "It may be when he saw his face in the paper that he got rid of it - we will never know.
"This man has previous convictions for assaulting children. He targeted a young girl, and used a ruse to get her into the woods - in my mind that makes him a very dangerous man."
Sentencing Toner, Recorder Jeremy Richardson told him: "I have no doubt at all you are a cunning and devious sexual predator when it comes to children.
"I do not know when it will be safe to release you.
"If you are released I have no doubt at all that the most stringent conditions must be imposed to prevent you repeating what you have done before."
