Shelter to keep yobs off streets
Teenagers on Teesside, some with Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (Asbos), are being offered somewhere to go in an attempt to keep them out of trouble.

Middlesbrough Council has built a special shelter in a part of the town which has suffered social problems.

The £5,000 facility in the Pallister Park area is somewhere for the youngsters to congregate without being moved on by police.

They will also be able to meet up with local youth workers.

'Ideal site'

The local youth offending reparation team will maintain the site, with local offenders helping clear it up.

Rob Brown, Middlesbrough Council's anti-social behaviour enforcement officer, said: "This is an ideal site for young people.

"Having a youth shelter in the local area is a much-needed tool in reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour.

"A lot of work has gone into this multi-agency project and hopefully the local community will reap the rewards of its success."
