Boy, 3, attacked by stray dog
A three-year-old boy needed emergency surgery after being attacked by a stray dog on Teesside.

The toddler suffered arm injuries after being badly bitten by a Japanese Akita - a powerful breed often used as guard dogs - in Coulby Newham, near Redcar.

Cleveland Police said the youngster was out playing on Tuesday afternoon when the incident happened.

A force spokeswoman said the boy, who has not been named, suffered a broken arm. The dog was later captured.

Police are trying to trace the animal's owner.
