Rapist who fled is found guilty
A Teesside man has been found guilty of rape in his absence after fleeing to Pakistan before the start of his trial.

Mohammed Fazal, 27, of Beaumont Road in North Ormesby, left Britain to visit his father, who he said had suffered a heart attack.

Judge Peter Armstrong told Teesside Crown Court on Thursday that Fazal had in fact absconded.

He was given a five year sentence for raping a 21-year-old woman in the town, to be enforced if he returns to the UK.
