Force sacks killer police officer
Maria Jones
Maria Jones was found with multiple stab wounds
A Cleveland police officer jailed for stabbing his wife almost 100 times, has been formally dismissed from the force.

Pc Graham Jones, better known as Ivor, admitted killing his 36-year-old wife Maria in the bedroom of their family home on Teesside in December.

In June, the 40-year-old pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

In a statement, Cleveland Police said Jones, who had 20 years service, had been dismissed.

Jones' trial heard how the officer "snapped" when his wife taunted him about an affair.

'Lost it'

The court heard how the mother-of-three was so afraid of her husband she kept a knife under her pillow and had told friends he had threatened to kill her.

On 2 December last year, the officer took the knife and repeatedly stabbed her to death as she slept in the spare bedroom.

Jones, who had denied murder, claimed he "lost it" after his wife repeatedly boasted about her affair with the 21-year-old man.

Her bloodstained body was found in a bedroom of the couple's 250,000 house in Ingleby Barwick near Stockton.
