The graffiti is inspired by local art, including postcards
Visitors to a Teesside museum are treated to an outbreak of graffiti, courtesy of young locals.

The giant images on show at Kirkleatham Museum in Redcar are inspired by existing collections at galleries across the region.

As part of the Urban Art project, more than 400 youngsters from the Tees Valley took part in taster sessions.

Then 40 of the more committed young artists went on to create the artworks which went on display.

The students visited their local museum, photographed and drew sketches of objects, then planned their design on paper before transferring it on to the boards.

All the artwork was first on show at the Urban Art Festival at Redcar's R-Kade Skate Park, linking in with a skateboard competition, attracting 200 young people from across the Tees Valley.

Project manager Sophie Ingleby said: "The aim was to give these young people the chance to experiment with an accessible modern medium, while also increasing public awareness of graffiti as an art form."
