Knifepoint robbery at bookmakers

Staff at a Middlesbrough bookmakers were left "terrified" after being held up at knifepoint by a masked robber.

The raid happened as the 50-year-old manageress and a female trainee were locking up for the night at the Coral bookmakers in Birchington Avenue.

A man with a large knife and wearing a balaclava entered the shop on Monday night and threatened the women.

He then ran off when the women handed over cash. Cleveland Police said they were "traumatised" by their ordeal.
