Town hopes to attract Dubai cash

Ray Mallon hopes to encourage investment in Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough's mayor is to pay a visit to Dubai in an attempt to encourage investment in Teesside.

Ray Mallon will be strengthening links already made with Mohamed Ali Alabbar, the economic development minister for the oil-rich state.

It follows a factfinding mission to Teesside from high ranking delegates of Dubai last September.

During the two-day trip, Mr Mallon will also meet operation executives from the property development company Emaar.

One of the aims is to attract investment for the Middlehaven regeneration project.

Mr Mallon said: "We already have had a large number of expressions of interest in Middlehaven phase one near Riverside Stadium, but we've got to think about phases two, three and four.

"What I've got with Emaar is a very good long-term relationship.

"I also want to talk to them about their ambitions with the UK, because I've become to a large extent a link man with them to the UK because they know me so well."
