Five members of the RNLI lifeboat station at Redcar are being honoured for their part in a dramatic rescue.
Two lifeboats were launched as part of the rescue
The Redcar Atlantic and D Class lifeboats were launched in August last year, after a lifeguard at Saltburn got into trouble trying to help a female surfer.
The boat's helmsman, Mark Reeves, is to receive the Thanks of the Institute on Vellum, and his four colleagues will receive a letter of thanks.
Ian Readman, the lifeboat operations manager, said it was a great example of teamwork.
He said: "I wouldn't dream of singling out one particular guy.
"Mark Reeves was the helmsman, he did his job, but he had guys sitting behind him doing their job and without them he couldn't have done his.
"They played their part in this service and they were all equally instrumental in saving that man's life."
