Sussex cadets celebrate 150th birthday

Family affair for cadet birthday

Cadets from across Sussex are marking the 150th anniversary of the youth movement.

Army, Air Force and Navy cadets celebrated the milestone at Sussex Army Cadet HQ in Dyke Road, Brighton.

A series of events will be held throughout the UK in 2010, under the banner Cadet150.

Cadets in Sussex are planning county displays at Goodwood, Shoreham, Eastbourne and a jamboree at Crowborough.

Colonel Chris Blessington, who chairs the Sussex Cadet150 committee, said: "We are delighted to be celebrating 150 years of this fantastic movement."

With origins dating back to 1860, the cadet movement is one of the oldest voluntary youth organisations in the world

The Queen, who is the patron of Cadet150, welcomed 27 young ambassadors of the organisation to Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.
