Body washed up on Brighton beach

A body washed ashore on the beach near Brighton Pier has been recovered by coastguards.

The body was spotted off the coast at Hove by a member of the public at about midday.

Coastguard officers launched a boat from Shoreham but the body had washed ashore by the time they reached it.

Officers from Sussex Police are investigating missing person records in an attempt to establish the identity of the person.
