Taxi in canal
Only the roof of the taxi was visible above the canal water

A taxi driver and two passengers escaped unharmed when a black taxi left the road and plunged into a canal.

The three adults in the taxi were thrown a life ring and helped to the bank at Canal Wharf in Chichester, West Sussex, on Saturday evening.

Sussex Police said they were suffering from shock but did not need to be taken to hospital.

The taxi was almost completely submerged and is expected to be recovered from the canal on Monday.
