Teenager bailed over fire death

An 18-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of the murder of an 85-year-old nursing home resident has been re-bailed by police.

Sussex Police said the suspect, who was arrested in February, had been bailed to return to Hastings police station on 28 August, pending further inquiries.

Irene Herring died after a fire in her room on 1 February.

Firefighters rescued her from her room at Ancaster Court nursing home in Bexhill but she died the next day.

She died from pneumonia brought on by smoke inhalation, a post-mortem examination revealed.
