Channel search for missing diver

Coastguards from Britain and France have been searching for a diver missing on the French side of the Channel.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said the man, aged over 60, had been with a charter boat called the Channel Diver, which had sailed from Brighton.

He is believed to have disappeared as his dive group resurfaced at about 1250 BST, a spokesman said.

The search, led by French coastguards at Cross Joburg, ended on Tuesday night but was set to resume in the morning.

Coastguard helicopter India Juliet, based at Lee-on-Solent, in Hampshire, flew to the scene earlier to join the operation.
