A teenage builder was seriously injured by flying debris when a helicopter crash-landed shortly after take-off from an aerodrome in West Sussex.

The 18-year-old, who was working on Goodwood Aerodrome's new aircraft hangar, received serious leg injuries as the helicopter attempted to land.

He was taken to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester. One person was treated by ambulance crews at the scene.

The 61-year-old helicopter pilot escaped unhurt from the damaged craft.

He was the only person on board at the time of the incident, just after 12noon.
