Brighton College will provide education for the children of wealthy clients

A private school in Brighton has announced plans to become part of a global education brand.

Brighton College, which was established in 1845, has been selected by Abu Dhabi-based Bloom Properties for its $10bn (£7bn) schools portfolio.

A college spokesman said the income generated could provide funding for extra bursaries and building projects at its Brighton campus.

They plan to provide a "quality brand service for a wealthy clientele".

The first two schools are expected to open in Abu Dhabi, with further schools following in "leading emerging markets" - Mauritius, Oman, Jordan, Romania, Vietnam and India.

Richard Cairns, Brighton College headmaster, said: "We were determined to get involved in a country with sound fundamentals, providing us with a strong platform for international expansion."

Each school will be built on a residential estate and will cater for both local and expatriate students.

Hani Rayden, the head of Bloom Education, said: "We are linking up with one of the great secondary schools in the world and one that we feel shares our ambitions."
