Folk rock festival is cancelled

A Sussex festival has had to be cancelled because of funding problems, its organisers have said.

The Lewes Folk Rock Festival, which has been held for the past six years, will not go ahead in 2009.

Musicians from around the world, often performing for a reduced fee, have been showcased at the event.

Organiser Steve Harrison said the festival was limited by venue capacity and their pledge to keep ticket prices low and 2009 would be a "rest year".

He added: "In endeavouring to programme 2009's event we have realised that we cannot finance the calibre of headline acts we need to maintain the event's growing reputation.

"2009 will therefore be a year of rest during which we will investigate the options for external funding."
