Crews fight fire at historic barn

The Grade II listed barn used to be owned by Adur council

About 40 firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a Grade II listed barn in West Sussex.

Crews were called to the fire at Kingston Barn in Shoreham at about 1215 GMT, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.

The building in St Julians Lane used to be owned by Adur council.

Last year, the new owners applied for planning permission to demolish the barn and build five houses on the site, but the application was refused.

Adur council said residents in Shoreham fought a campaign for the barn to be restored while the application was going through.

The authority closed the community building in 2005 after routine maintenance found the structure was in danger of collapse.
