Ram-raiders target jewellery shop

Wedding rings and diamond jewellery worth about £150,000 have been stolen in a ram raid on a shop in West Sussex.

Police said a blue Vauxhall Frontera 4x4 was driven into one of the windows of Wakefields Jewellers in West Street, Horsham, at about midnight.

A man then grabbed jewellery which he put into a black holdall before he got on to the back of a motorbike waiting outside the Phones 4 U shop.

Officers said the car, registration number L240 OTP, was sold on 2 January.

They are appealing for anyone who knows where it had been kept during the past week to contact them.

Det Insp Jo Banks said the man who bought the vehicle was described as white, aged 19 to 25 years old, and about 6ft tall with short dark hair.

The police would also like to hear from anyone who was in the town centre at the time of the robbery and saw the Frontera or the motorbike, which made off in the direction of Springfield Road.
