Armed man raids bookmakers shop

A betting shop in Brighton has been targeted in a robbery by an armed man wearing a high visibility jacket.

The man, whose face was covered with a stocking, stole an undisclosed amount of cash from Corals Bookmakers in St James's Street at 1210 GMT.

Sussex Police said he showed what is believed to be a handgun to staff and demanded money.

Officers are investigating whether a ball-bearing gun found in the Old Steine area was connected to the raid.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Staff were shaken, one needing paramedic treatment as a precaution, but otherwise unharmed."

The suspect was described as white, aged in his 30s, between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 8ins tall, and was carrying a satchel.
