Woman's disappearance 'a mystery'

Elaine Taggart has not made contact with any of her family

The disappearance of a mother-of-two who was last seen a year ago remains a mystery, Sussex Police have said.

Elaine Taggart, 49, a catering manager at Brighton College, was last seen on 3 January 2008 when she gave a colleague a lift home.

Her car was found near Goring railway station - a short drive from her home in Ferring, West Sussex.

Offices said an extensive investigation had to date failed to establish her whereabouts but the case remained open.

Det Ch Insp Adam Hibbert, who is leading the investigation, said: "Elaine's disappearance remains a mystery. Her two children have now had to spend Christmas and New Year not knowing what has become of her.

"I would ask anyone with information to contact Sussex Police."

Mrs Taggart is described as white, 5ft 6in (1.6m) tall, with medium build and dark brown hair.

A 43-year-old man arrested last April on suspicion of murdering her was stood down from bail in August.
