Assaulted boys get bravery award

Two teenagers have been presented with awards from police for their bravery in dealing with a racially-motivated attack in Brighton.

Omar Khan and Max Lovergen were assaulted by two youths in 2007 and gave evidence against them in court.

Omar was seriously assaulted in the racist incident and his friend Max was also attacked when he tried to help.

They were presented with Child Victim of Crime Awards by Ch Supt Paul Pearce at John Street police station.

The boys were given a tour of the station and were each given £100 gift vouchers.

Pc Darren Balkham, Sussex Police's football liaison officer, also gave them a signed Brighton and Hove Albion shirt donated by the club.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: "Both boys were over-the-moon - the shirts were the icing on an already wonderful cake after getting the Child Victims Award."

The youths who assaulted the boys were found guilty of committing the attack and were given a custodial sentence in September 2007.
